Professor John Upham is a clinical scientist and respiratory physician at the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute and Princess Alexandra Hospital. Their research work aims to understand susceptibility to virus infections in severe asthma and the mechanisms leading to asthma exacerbations.

Current projects aim to establish and validate clinical and molecular characteristics of the ‘frequent exacerbator phenotype’, and the role of innate anti-viral interferons and dysregulation in the IL-33 signalling pathway. Through this work, it is anticipated research outcomes could deliver positive impacts for severe asthma patients, health care professionals and systems of care.
