Background
The “Centre for Infectious Disease Research" was established in 2009 within the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences at UQ.
Under the leadership of Prof. Alex Khromykh, this initiative coordinated 11 leading groups focused on infectious disease research.
This beginning provided the opportunity to create an internationally competitive Australian infectious diseases research centre combining strong basic and clinical research.
The "Australian Infectious Diseases Research Centre" (AID) was established at UQ in 2011, and became a collaborative research initiative of UQ and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in 2012. AID will allow us to help drive this critical research field nationally.
AID will provide a beacon for the attraction of talented infectious diseases researchers both nationally and internationally to QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and UQ, enhancing critical mass and expertise housed within the centre.
A pledge to AID goes directly into the research of issues that impact the lives of many people and their families.
