Dr Chris McMillan receives inaugural BCEC LSQ Bio Innovation Bursary

15 Sep 2026

Congratulations to Dr Chris McMillan from The University of Queensland, who has received the inaugural Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ) Bio Innovation Bursary.

The bursary will support Chris's research into innovative vaccine platforms and advanced delivery technologies, including his ongoing collaboration with Vaxxas to develop next-generation RNA vaccines that can be delivered using a high-density microarray patch rather than a needle.

“This bursary will allow me to continue my work with Vaxxas, where we're developing next-generation RNA vaccines that can be delivered by their high-density microarray patch rather than by needle. Removing the cold chain requirement would make these vaccines much easier to distribute globally, particularly in the settings that need them most.”

The award was presented as part of the Life Sciences Queensland Gene Awards 2026, which recognise achievements and innovation across Queensland's life sciences sector.
