Research Areas

AID undertakes research on parasite, viral, bacterial and fungal infectious diseases, and brings together basic sciences, clinical research and technological expertise where both UQ and QIMR have strengths.

Respiratory polymicrobial infections

The heightened susceptibility of young children to respiratory viral infections is due to a combination of factors including the complex interplay between virus and bacteria at the mucosal surface, colonisation of the respiratory tract with pathogenic bacteria, and developmental deficiencies in innate immunity.

We will bring together expertise in molecular microbiology, viral and bacterial pathogenesis, bioinformatics and clinical medicine to address this significant problem effecting childhood health.
