AID undertakes research on parasite, viral, bacterial and fungal infectious diseases, and brings together basic sciences, clinical research and technological expertise where both UQ and QIMR have strengths.

AID Research Excellence Awards 2017

The following researchers have been awarded AID Research Excellence Awards for outstanding work done in their respective fields:

  • Simon Phipps; Tissue alarmins as novel targets for the prevention of postbronchiolitic asthma
  • Roy Hall; Exploiting mosquito-specific viruses to elucidate the dynamics of arboviral transmission and develop new-generation diagnostics and vaccines.
  • Mark Schembri; Copper and its antibacterial action in UPEC infection
  • Malcolm Jones; A highly sensitive and specific diagnostic tool for human schistosomiasis based on surface interactions of schistosome eggs​
