Research Areas

AID undertakes research on parasite, viral, bacterial and fungal infectious diseases, and brings together basic sciences, clinical research and technological expertise where both UQ and QIMR have strengths.

Antimicrobial resistance

The rise of antimicrobial resistant pathogens is one of the major health challenges facing the human population.

We will examine the capacity of mobile genetic elements to promote the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Tracking the spread of microbial resistance, and surveillance for the emergence of new resistance genes, will inform strategies for the control of multi-resistant pathogens in the health system.
